Should You Get a Revision Rhinoplasty?

Commonly after nose surgery, people are in shock from their new face, and experience discomfort as a side effect of rhinoplasty surgery. During these times, many people are enticed by revision rhinoplasty. Should you go back and try to fix your surgery? Let's find out.

First, it's important to note why people want to go back and get a revision rhinoplasty. In a 2010 American Medical Association study, 104 patients seeking revision rhinoplasty were surveyed. The study population consisted of 83% females and 17% males, with a mean age of 34 years. The youngest patient was aged 17 years; the oldest, 70 years. 74% of patients reported no medical problems. 87% were non smokers, 12% were current smokers, and 1% were previous smokers. Patients reported taking, on average, 1 home medication daily, and 43% of patients denied any medication use. Examination of surgical history showed an average of 1.2 non-nasal operations, with the most common operation being breast augmentation. The overall most important reasons for seeking revision rhinoplasty were (1) tip asymmetry, (2) difficulty breathing or nasal blockage, and (3) crooked middle third. A 2007 study analyzed patient satisfaction after revision rhinoplasty. In this study, 90 patients that underwent revision rhinoplasty over 10 years prior were surveyed. Of these 90 patients, only 47 responded. Of these 47, there was an improvement in the absolute scores in 88% of patients, a stable situation in 8%, and a worsening of the nasal condition in 4% of patients. Keep in mind these numbers are based off quite a small sample size, so variation is possible. It is also reasonable to infer that the respondents were comparatively happier with the results than the non-respondents.

Looking at what other doctors say today, however, the consensus seems to be that a revision rhinoplasty is a last resort procedure that should only be attempted at least 1 year after the initial surgery. Before the 1 year has elapsed, the nose is too sensitive and prone to change, and during this time period, Doctor CO Eyewear is worth considering. However, if it is too late and you already damaged your nose post-op, if revision rhinoplasty is viable for you, the satisfaction rate is surprisingly high, so you have little to worry about.
